First pilot order of Federal Aviation in the United States: Beta electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft successfully flies

2026-07-11

The eVTOL integration pilot program of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States has achieved its first landing result. Beta Technologies, invested by Amazon, recently completed its first cross state test flight under the program. Its all electric ALIA model has a total flight range of approximately 275 nautical miles and successfully transported artificial organs for United Therapeutics. This mission spans multiple airports in Maryland and Virginia, verifying the reliability and cost advantages of electric aircraft in medical emergency scenarios.

The CEO of Beta stated that this has laid the foundation for low-cost conventional medical air transportation across the United States. It is worth noting that Beta has exclusive access to seven out of the eight FAA pilot projects, making it the most actively participating enterprise. Its eVTOL models are expected to obtain certification in 2028, while conventional takeoff and landing models are expected to be approved first in 2027. With the eIPP program fully launched this summer, the low altitude economy is entering the fast lane of commercialization from concept validation.
